Proof, not promises

Fake K-pop merchandise is a documented problem, not a marketing line. In early 2026, Korea's Trademark Police Division worked with HYBE on a four month investigation that seized nearly 20,000 counterfeit items tied to nine idol groups, including BTS, Seventeen and TOMORROW X TOGETHER. Later that year, HYBE filed a federal lawsuit in the United States to stop bootleg vendors selling fake T-shirts and posters outside BTS's ARIRANG tour stops, describing counterfeit goods made from inferior materials but priced to pass as official merch.

According to Korea's Music Content Association, photocards, lightsticks and clothing remain the most frequently counterfeited items in the industry.

Why collectors buy more than one copy

Photocards are inserted at random, one per album copy, which is what drives K-pop's unusual collecting habits.

Common questions before you buy

What comes inside a K-pop album?
Most K-pop albums include a CD, a photo book or booklet, and one random photocard per copy. Some versions replace the photocard with a poster or sticker set instead. Inclusions are set by version, not by group, so two versions of the same album can differ.
Are K-pop lightsticks region locked?
Most official lightsticks work at concerts worldwide through Bluetooth sync rather than a regional lock, though the sync feature depends on the app version used at that tour stop.
Why do fans buy more than one copy of the same album?
Photocards are inserted at random, one per copy, so buying several copies or trading with other collectors is how fans complete a set of member photocards from a single release.
How do I know a photocard or lightstick is genuine before I buy?
Compare the product photos against the current official release for that album or tour, check the seller's return policy, and buy from a listing that names the exact version and release date rather than a generic description.
